So my tremendous day of catching up on the boards and starting working on my spiel for the symposium didn't so much happen as not today. You know how some people get sick in the holidays? Well the kids went back to school today and I have a cold. Nothing serious but I do just want to curl up and go to sleep. So... I've written some emails, that's the sum total of my achievements today. Oh, and talked some crap, but that's no surprise.

There is a bunch of stuff in my head which seems unable to settle into coherent thought, perhaps because of the sinus pain. I'm really hoping this is going to kick off soon because, bloody hell but the next couple of months are going to be busy. By my incredibly low-energy standards, anyway.

And the kids will be walking home in the rain (we're in the middle of a freaking drought, FFS) so I'd best prepare for misery and hot chocolate...

You may have already- but if not you might find "Would the Vampire People Please Leave the Lobby: Adventures in Cult Fandom" by Allyson Beatrice worth having a skim through for your presentation (which is about internet communities, yes?). It's basically about one woman's experiences with various Buffy on-line communities. I found it patchy but I'm scared to write a negative review of it on my obscure little blog because she and her friends would probably still find it & flame me as they are uber internet people- & truth to tell it wasn't all bad though patchy and I'm not sure who exactly her intended audience were as she starts off by calling people with an academic interest in Buffy sad losers obviously quite unlike her and her alpha friends who just like to hang out on Buffy forums night and day (proving my theory that other peoples fandom always seems weird and icky). She goes on far too much about how she has become such good friends with Tim Minnear and some of the stuff she talk about dealing with trolls is very much internet 101 for anyone who has been around much. But still- if you have time it might trigger some ideas.

I sympathise with the low energy thing. I've been in a migrainey state of brain fog for nearly 3 months now- summer in Wellington just seems to be bad for me-if only I had the energy to move somewhere else- and things are about to get extremely busy for me too.
